Media Assessment 2 learner response

 Feedback:

WWW:

This is a strong assessment across all four questions with good knowledge and understanding shown.

EBI:

For the top level we need to develop a more critical perspective,eg, challenging some of the theories we have learnt. Final point on technology was great- ellaborate.

TASK 2

1) Excellent analysis of the product that is detailed and critically engages with the nuanced aspects of how media language is used to construct meaning.

2) Maintain control and profit at every stage of chain of production (vertical int.)

3) Excellent knowledge and understanding of public service broadcasting and its impact on media audiences and industries that is consistently supported by highly appropriate and effective examples.

4) Judgements and conclusions regarding the application of audience effects theory are perceptive and fully supported with detailed reference to theories and examples.

Task 3

3) On a scale of 1-10 (1 = low, 10 = high), how much revision and preparation did you do for this assessment? You may also want to think here whether you had completed all the original blog tasks from last term before doing the assessment.

7/8 - due to some missed lessons that i later tried to learn, i had some gaps.

4) Look at your answer for Question 2. Did you manage to write about three different strategies and three different benefits? It's vital you read the question and follow it exactly.

I was able to give three strategies, and provide benefits for all however I need to elaborate on vertical integration and mention how firms can lower costs and increase profit.

5) Look at your answer for Question 3. Did you follow the question guidance and write about both the BBC and commercial broadcasters? What could you have added to this answer to reach a higher mark?

Yes, however I need to add more details and reflect on uk values .

6) Now look over your mark, teacher comments and the mark scheme for Question 4 - the 20 mark essay question on media effects theory. Write a new paragraph for this question based on the suggested theories/answers in the mark scheme. Make sure it is an extensive, detailed paragraph focused on the question and offering examples from the wider media.

...Furthermore, Bandura's social theory further enhances my view as his theory claims that people copy the behaviour that they see which complements with Gerbner’s theory that views are made homogenous and end up believing the same thing. However the uses and gratification theory by Blumer and Kartz opposes their views as they claim that audience is active and choses to watch content they can engage in. This means that the audience has much control over their consumption of media, therefore media is not damaging. Additionally, media is consistently regulated by Ofcom, keeping the audience protected from explicit content and there are services like BBFC can also help prevent media from being damaging as they inform the audience as to who the content is suitable for.
